New breakthroughs in 3D printing technology for large metal parts
The manufacture of large-scale key components of high-performance and difficult-to-process metals such as titanium alloys, high-strength steels, and heat-resistant alloys is the foundation of major equipment manufacturing industries such as aviation, aerospace, electric power, petrochemicals, and ships.
High-performance large-scale metal component additive manufacturing technology is expected to provide a revolutionary new way of rapid, flexible, low-cost, high-performance, and short-cycle technology for the manufacture of large-scale metal components that are difficult to process in major defense and industrial equipment. Aviation, aerospace, nuclear power, petrochemical, shipbuilding and other high-end major equipment manufacturing applications have broad prospects, and are highly concerned by governments, industry and academia worldwide.
Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics and China’s aerospace and other equipment design and manufacturing enterprises through “production, learning and research” close cooperation, aiming at major national needs, after more than 20 years of continuous research and development, with the support of the Beijing Municipal Science High-strength steel and other large-scale integral load-bearing key structural parts laser additive manufacturing process, quality performance control and application of key technologies, established a complete set of technical standards system, and developed a series of original core technologies and the world’s largest forming capacity laser additive. The manufacturing of complete sets of equipment is used in the development and production of China’s key equipment such as large aircraft, new fighters, new missiles, and satellites, and has played an important role in ensuring the smooth development of equipment.
